Is the community forum good enough?12/6/2005 10:50:17 AM

I want to add forum to my web site,
Do you recommend me to buy a forum module
or the community forum (dnn project) is good enough?

Thanks.

I went with it because it will evolve.  And because of the gallery integration.  But both are a little buggy right now.  There are some issues I don't agree with it.  Like inorder to admin it, a user must be an admin, either for the page or the site.  And moderators can only moderate moderated forums.  They can't edit or pin or anything any threads on non-moderated forums.  But they can only get better.

Have you tried it to see if it works for you?

Jeff

The new forum version is done and in vault.  It has to go on dnn.com, then it gets released.  The new gallery version is done.  Because of being busy w/ forum, it needs just a bit more testing, then it is released.

I don't see why you would want an admin of the module who is not the admin of the page.  This makes no sense to me.  If someone has the power to change the entire module's settings, then why shouldn't they be able to move it around on the page?  I see this taking the same level of trust.  In most situations, the forum is going to get configured and never be touched again.  There are no plans to change this.

As for the other moderated items, I personally took on moderation this release.  I did not change anything you said but for good reason.  I simply wanted the process to become much easier to do overall.  Next release, there will be focus back on the moderation ideas you mention.

Cool Good news.  I see your point about the admin.  makes sense.  I want to be able to let someone add forums and moderate the forums with out haveing a moderated forum.  I just don't think they need to see all the admin stuff on the page.  But I understand the reasoning.  I suppose I could make the forums moderated and just make everyone approved.  Keep up the good work.

On a side note it would be nice to be able to delete, pin a post without having to go into the thread and edit the post even.  I look foreward to this module's future.

Things are a bit different now.  Its a bit difficult to explain, but I think it is very usable.
