DNN host that support RSS module/external HTTP calls?12/1/2005 12:36:37 AM

I'm in the market for a new web host. I signed up for a 14 day trial at WebSecureStores but surprisingly they do not support modules that make external http calls to remote web sites, such as the XML/XSL and RSS feed module. Apparently these modules don't work in medium trust.

Can anyone give me recommendations on web hosts that specifically DO support this type of functionality? I have a DNN site that uses the RSS and XML/XSL module so I need to know it's possible to keep on using them before I move.

Don't have an answer for you, but that is a problem for me, as well.  I've been working on a solution, but haven't nailed it down yet.  More importantly to me is this is a problem for non-DNN apps as well, including some modules being sold on commercial sites. More hosts are moving to more secure environments and even simply trying to retrieve RSS feeds from weather services fail because of it.  Not a good thing, but hopefully, the community will find an answer, soon.

Found one! I just moved my DNN site over to CrystalTech and they support everything I need. All the modules I tried so far works, including the Newsfeed and XML/XSL modules, and Oliver Hine's Weather module. I'm running DNN 3.2 on their .Net 1.1 Intermediate plan with SQL Server 2005. Their tech support is really good too. Of course, it's still early days, but so far I'm thoroughly impressed with them.

Are you talking about ASP.net 2, I haven't tested that yet?

This was a DNN 3.2 install on .Net 1.1. I just got an email from WebSecureStores though saying they configured the server to now allow this type of functionality.

look for a host that offers the use of a proxy server and port to allow external connections to other sites, this is used a lot when using curl in php, in dnn, you just go to host settings, advanced and enter in the proxy server information
