I've installed DNN on a test machine, initially just as localhost/dotnetnuke. Then I added the IP address of the machine so it could be accessed from elsewhere. At first I got an error when logging off while on a remote machine - it was trying to revert to localhost.

I put the ip address version in first and localhost second, and then the logoff worked fine - looks like it defaults to the first URL in list for logoff location?

However, now when I log in with IP address, whether locally or remotely, all seems ok except the Site Settings page produces the error listed below.

If I logon using localhost/dotnetnuke I don't have this problem; however, and interestingly, it always logs me back out at the IP URL.

Am a DNN newbie as well as not too experienced with asp.net, vb.net.

Thanks for any help!

Mike

Doesn't anyone else have these issues? I blew away the first install of DNN and reinstalled. This time I used only the IP address and not 'localhost' as the URL. All seems to work except when I attempt to open the Site Settings page; DNS error.

I've only been able to access the Site Settings page when 'localhost' is one of the URLS - the first listed, in fact - and when I'm using localhost. Cannot access it remotely.

I understand the URLs are to be a comma-separated list. Upon logout you are supposed to either stay with the URL you are logged in with, or revert to the first in the list if it cannot parse the one you were on (as I understand it). This whole thing seems not to work.

Apparently, however, other folks aren't having this difficulty! Am I doing something wrong?

Have you tried using DNS name? If so do you get the same results? If you don't have access to a DNS server to make the entry try using your machine name instead, the machine name should resolve to an IP address other than the local host. If this doesn't work try adding an entry to the hosts file that points to your machine name or whatever you want it to point to.

Open the hosts file located in the <systemroot>\System32\drivers\etc, then add an entry like so:

192.168.0.1 machinename

You really shouldn't have to worry about modifying the host file if the machine resolves your machine name.

Also make sure you have the entry in the settings are of DNN.

The reason I'm asking you to do all this is to isolate the error to see if it is specifc to using an IP address or is it something that affects everything when accessing the site remotely.

It's taken a while but I have installed on a machine which has a DNS name, and I'm gettng the same results. It seems ok except when I go to Site Settings when logged in as admin or when I go to edit a portal when logged in as host. In either case the same error.

This is the version I downloaded from dotnetnuke.de which has the skins ... does that mean this is the ML or XXL version (or are they the same)?

Jeremy notes he had this problem with DNN XXL ... but does not mention a solution. I really like the flexibility of the skins; at least the concept.

I suppose I should uninstall and try vanilla DNN?

The culprit had something to do with some ML changes in the XXL version that effected the logoff procedure. I never fixed it I just put the most popular portal alias on the list first. I didn't look further to find a solution.

I don't really need ML ... is there a non-ML version of XXL that I can d/l, and where?

Thanks,
Mike

No. The closest thing is 1.0.9 enhancement pack from aus_nexxus.

You can get it here
