Hi all,

Now not sure if this is a stupid question but im trying to clarify the terms of use of the portal. Im thinking about doing some freelance and the opportunity has come up to provide a solution based upon the DNN structure for a company.

Would you need to include terms of use and copyright relating to DNN???

The terms of use that DNN provides are designed to be a starting point, not an ending point. You can go in and change them however you need, even deleting them if you so desire. The copywrite notice is similar. I personally like giving DNN credit where credit is definitely due, but there's nothing to stop you from removing the copywrite notice if you want. Whenever I build a portal using DNN, I always go out of my way to point out to the client where the source came from, who was involved in writing it, and what my involvement in the project has been. I've found that spreading credit around to all who so definitely deserve it only enhances my standing, saying in effect that I'm smart enough to not have written every line of code myself. I've found that encouraging involvement in the project has been very productive, and now I always distribute URLs to dotnetnuke.com, this forum, snowcovered.com, and a few others just so the client can see what is available and what might have some value to them. With my latest project, the client wants to add the Quote of the Day module from snowcovered, a module I hadn't seen much use for myself. Just an example of how the client knows what she wants better than I can guess what she wants.

I haven't lost a single client to this forum. Few people out there wish to build the nuts and bolts that drive a site. What they want are good tools in place for them to build a good site. Lots of people want to use a hammer, but very few people want to build one. I like building hammers myself, as do most other people on this forum it would seem....

In short, build your portals however they work best for you. That's the idea behind open source. As long as you don't take credit for something you didn't do, everything's cool. Donate whatever you can whenever you can in whatever way you can and leave DNN a little better than you found it. Everyone benefits. :)
