Tables within Text/HTML modules11/30/2003 6:00:28 PM

0/0

Whenever I create a table within a Text/HTML module, it seems to pad the top of the module with a large white-space.

The more content in the table, the more padding!

Does anyone know why this is happening or how to prevent it?

Thanks,

I am not sure why this is happening. Have you checked the html source while editing this module? If so, what were your findings?

I've examined the HTML extensively... it looks fine.

If I type text in the module, it's fine. But as soon as I addd a table... the white-space mysteriously pushes everything down the page!!!

Thoughts?

I have seen this once and twice and since I was not able to reproduce it after I deleted the module from the tab and added another fresh one, I just thought, well this is one of those unexplainable things.

check your html in dreamweaver or something and see if has anything funny, like vertical alignment set to bottom or anything that looks odd.

Ok... I've figured it out.

If you edit a text module and select "Basic Text Box" and "Text" and then type raw HTML into the "Desktop Content" field (i.e. what I've been doing), the module takes all the carriage returns you type and turns them into <br> tags which, when you view the module, force your table part way down the page. The bigger the table... the more <br>'s, therefore, further down the page the table is!!!

The solution, either:

a) type your HTML without using carriage returns or

b) use the Rich Text Editor in HTML mode

To be honest, while there is a way around this problem, I consider it a bug in the module since <br>'s are inserted even if you type your HTML into the "Basic Text Box" in "HTML" mode.

This same thing happens if you switch from rtf to text. I admit, it is a great annoyance. Technically the issue is that anything in a table not contained BETWEEN a <td> and a </td> get displayed before the table. Even if you are putting things like commends in, everything should be between table-data tags, else you will add space above your table.

The worst part is, it seems, once inserted the only solution is to manually remove them using html mode, so beware of that ichy mouse clicker. Accidentally click the text button and you are hosed.
