Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site http://...8/19/2005 9:06:43 PM

Hi,
I have DNN install in my hoot folder at webhost4life.

Unfortunately, when I click in my horizontal menu sometimes I get this error message, "Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site http://mysite.com."

This problem occurs more often when I try to open my Events, or Blog pages from the Horizontal Menu.

I think this is some problem with webhost4life. Anyway, I will appreciate some help from you guys.

Thanks.

Well, first off, hopfully you meant Root folder. Although "Hoot" folder would be kind of cool too. ;)

I think the first thing you should check, is to see what you have in your portal alias.

Sign in as host. Go to Portals on the Host menu.

Look at what it says in the Portal Alias field.

it should be www.mysite.com

Thanks a lot...

And yes I meant Root folder!:)

So, after several tests I get the answer. The problem is in my browser.  In one hand that?s good, for my site is ok. However, if you have any clue why I am getting this error message in my computer, it?s going to be very helpful.

The issue becomes a little off topic, but anyways?

Thanks again, and DotNetDoc congratulations for your website, it is very cool.

Try the www in front of the URL.  If you do not have the www in the portal aliases... it will cause a problem.

If it's the error I've seen before, it is actually a bug in Internet Explorer, caused by event-handling Javascript inside a table - this used to be the case for the SolPartMenu, and I remember reading a post about a fix.  (However, this may not be your problem).

If you do a search on "Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site" in Google, there are tons of references to this error - but the rest of the error message is required in order to narrow down the problem.

I get this error intermittently on my site: www.StarryHost.com. It may happen on the same pages or different pages...I don't see a pattern. I hit F5 to refresh and it will load correctly after once or twice of F5.

I checked out the Microsoft site as per another post here in this thread and there are only about 12 different causes. I also searched these forums as per your suggestion about a SolPartMenu problem but I could not find that post.

Since most visitors use IE not FireFox, do you remember what the fix might have been?

Thanks,
Jack

There's a setting in the solpart menu that you can force the menu to not render sublevels until the page is finished loading. Do a search for something along those lines, and you'll find a solution.

You nailed it. The post is: http://forums.asp.net/616201/ShowPost.aspx. Unfortunately it is one year old but does accurately describe the problem (which I can now recreate thanks to this: if I load a page and my mouse is over a parent menu that has sub menus, the error will occur). The creator of SolPartMenu had a response, but I've got a pretty recent version of SolPart. I'll email him to see if he has a solution.

SolPartMenu version 1.6 did the trick!
