Hi,

I got a request about redesigning a static webpage, with a simple shoppingcart.
The customer also wants a forum, another layout, and as mentioned, a new design.

I wonder if I might as well should tempt him with the DotNetNuke CMS?
How much work will it be to install/configure it?
- Estimated in hours for download, unpack, upload, configure and install.

He currently has only about 6 or 7 pages, but as I said, they are static!
eg. If I am to redesign his current pages, I will have to edit all of the pages!
Also, I would have to install a forum and implement that forum.

My guess, would be that if DotNetNuke has a good install, then it is easier to install it, rather than messing in his static files, for a homologated layout and design?

Also: Will dotnetnuke work fine on Access? I dont think he has SQL on his hosting :(

I havent programmed in asp.net yet, but I have programmed in C, VB, ASP, PHP, Java, etc. I also have good knowledge about XHTML, etc.

Hi,

I started using Dotnetnuke this weekend and appart from the setting on SQL server where i forgot to specify NT and SQL authentication the install went greate. I downloaded the 2 free wmv tutorial videos and while waching them setup my DotNetNuke site. It worked like a charm, hava a great view on how it all works and have created my first website with forum and all. I did this in 2 days of about 5hours a day.

You don't need any programming skills to get started just common logic and the result is very visual and immediate.

Firs, DNN requires SQL so that may kill the project for you.  Otherwise, you could do the whole thing, including converting the existing content and adding a forum, in a couple hours.  If you're going to reskin it (new layout design) then you're looking at a learning curve for that.  No programming required, all modules.

It may be worth while to switch hosting. www.websecurestores.com will only cost $8 a month. www.webhost4life.com only costs $10. Compare the features to decide what you like. I have only used WH4L but WSS seems very popular. If you decide to switch hosts, You can completely prepare the new site while leaving the old one alone. Then when it's ready for use, just change his domain name to point to the new host. Once the client is happy, have him cancel the old host.

I will check if he has SQL or the possibility to get SQL on his hosting.
If it took 10hrs, I think I should recommend him that option, as his static files are not-so-good.
