Hi,

How do you change the colour of the dropdown list (tab) area?

I've got the bevel, tabimage and date areas changed but its still black around home, admin, hosts etc.

Many thanks

Dan,

Look in the controls directory. DesktopPortalBanner.ascx has the settings your looking for. I have set mine up (SolPartMenu) to pull from the portal.css, however you can 'hardcode' the attributes you want right there.

I have another question to got alone with this. On our site we have 6 portals total including the main portal. We would like to know how to make it where we have 6 different bar colors for each portal. We have found where you where talking about the (SolPartMenu), but how can we make a different color for each portal????

Many Thanks,

If I understand you correctly you are talking about the images. THis will need to wait until the skinning solution, but you can set the menu options from each portal's style sheet. I don't have the exact style defintions you need to set right here, but if you view the source of one of the portals, the menu injects them for you. You can recognize them by the .spSomething. define the styles in your style sheets then you will be able control the colors of each portal's menus from there. When the skinning gets finished then you will have a lot more options with this.

For example view:
http://comm.dynamicvb.net
http://comm.dynamicvb.net/phpdupe/
http://comm.dynamicvb.net/wings/
http://comm.dynamicvb.net/vertdefault/

There isn't any content, but you should get the idea. And these are all off the same codebase.

If you don't mind, I have another question. We are running DNN ver. 1.0.9 with most of the site completed. We have about 15% left to complete, and was wondering what is and where can we download the next version. I understand that's its ver. 1.0.10. Plus, what is XXL ver.? Now from your experience, should we upgrade? If so, what version, and again, where is the best place to download. I hope these aren't to simple of questions to be asked, but we are just getting started. The reason for asking is that reading some of the forums I get a mixed feeling on what version to upgrade to, or even how to correctly complete an upgrade.

Thank You for you time.

You will find 1.0.10 on www.dotnetnuke.com. If you are not changing the core and just adding content and modules then you could anytime upgrade to 1.0.10 . The XXL version is available from www.dotnetnuke.de also you could get it from xpdit.com.

However, I think the latest XXL is still in beta so you should wait a little longer. Having said that people are using it right now and I believe that the main developers Tom/Geert/Arkadic/Mark intend to support it in the long run. Having said that, the official version is 1.0.10 and this would most certainly be the official dotnetnuke version that will have continues upgrade path into future.

Ok, Salaro thank you for the info. My next question will again show just how new we are at this, but here it goes anyway. I have DNN 1.0.9 running on all of my servers, both at home and at work, plus my own web site uses DNN 1.0.9. I just download the file 1.0.10 from www.dotnetnuke.com, and just moved the zip file to my second server, which is where I have a Intranet testing right now. It has some data, but its only test data, could you please explain the steps I shuld take from here. The server is running Win 2000, with a full version SQL, and all the .net and mobile programs that DNN said to install through the readme file.
Here is how I think I understand the upgrade process should be carried out, but just not sure;
Just unzip the DNN 1.0.10 to any directory, then copy the files from inside that directory to the DNN directory where the current version (1.0.9) is located. Then access or use the URL (which is a 10. URL) to bring up the portal. Then go to the Host or Admin controls and scroll to the bottom and select the upgrade version. All of this is what I'm not sure of. We don't have a copy of Visual Studio, but have copies of VB 6.0 and Visual Fox Pro 7.00, plus a copy of (WebMatrix from asp.net).
Again, Thank You for your time.

OK

I am not familiar with fixing upgrade issues if you don?t have visual studio installed. This is just my guess, others that use DNN without VS can correct me if I am wrong. I would have thought you need to ensure that you have the db and the existing DNN 1.0.9 folder backed up just in-case things go wrong. You should extract the content of your 1.0.10 zip file in a new folder. Then copy the content to your DNN folder, edit your web.config and the .sln so it is the same as what you have in your backed up folder, go to IIS and browse the desktopdefault so you run the application. The engine would automatically run the new db and you are done.

One caveat that there are one or two corrections you need to do with some outstanding issues with 1.0.10 and that is where I should probably advise you to wait a few more days/ week before you do this.

There are a few bug fixes to be release in the next few days. However, if you have not followed the forum posts during the last few weeks then you would have missed the fixes that were posted by Joe for and Chris. If you are eager to do the upgrade now because of an existing issue then let me know so I will post the corrections for you. I think that it is better to wait for the official release

Currently, I have most of my instillations in still 1.0.9 and they are running fine. I have one or two of them moved up to 1.0.10 and after the fixes they are running great but as I said, if you can waiting a week is a then it is a good idea as you don?t have VS to do fine tuning if things go wrong.

Thanks Salaro,

I have no problem waiting. I haven't been a member long to this forum, and I've been busy just looking over the whole thing. I think I'm just going to hang out in here "DotNetNuke" for a while until I get a better hang of this portal system.

I did just install the ASP.Fourms Bet 1 on one of my servers. Everything went well, but somehow, I've miss the admin user name and password. I just ran the file from where I download it from, Oh well, I get to researching to see what the admin user default ID/PW should be.

Thanks for your time, and I'll keep checking these forums for the next update.
