Can two versions of DNN coexist on the same machine?11/5/2005 11:38:17 AM

I have 2 DNN installations, using 2 seperate dbs. I am trying to make one a subdirectory of the other(I am doing this because I'm trying to use a different membership provider on one installation). So I go to IIS, create the virtual directory, give it all the right permissions INCLUDING creating a new Application Name for the virtual directory where the starting point SHOWS:
 <default Web Site>\mydirectory as it should and the other permissions are set the same as the default web site.

When I fire it up in a browser I start getting ASP.NET error messages telling me files are missing, etc because it is definitely reading the other DNN installation's web.config file. What am I doing wrong?

You can have as many DNN installs on a server as you wish, however, the one limitation is that they each must be in their own directories and not nested one below another.  The reason for this is how DotNetNuke handles multiple portals from a single install.

Physically, their directories are NOT nested below one another, however install 2 exists as a virtual directory nested below install1 in IIS. Should this work?

Yes.  I currently have my laptop setup with 4 different versions of DNN.. V2.1.2 (x2), V3.0.13, and V3.1.1.  All have different databases, and all are in separate directories.  Each have a virtual directory pointing at the appropriate directory.  I will be adding V3.2 soon (real soon I hope!)

Problems?  - None .... priceless. Wink [;)]
