I have added 2 instances on separate tabs but they don't share the same categories and content. Is this by design ? I want to add content on one tab and show different categories on different tabs, is this possible ?

Hmmm - I haven't looked at Scotts module in great detail, but the one from Efficion does that (and it claims to be a re-write of Scotts). Only today I was trying to work out the differences between the two... maybe check this out:

What I settled on was creating one central News page that had all of the categories and articles in it.

Then I added a News Feeds (RSS) module to various pages using the News Articles Syndication XML path for a specific category as the source feed.

That way Category specifc headlines and summaries appeared at the appropriate places in the site.

The only downside that I see is that ALL users will have the ability to read all articles for the shared News instance, currently no way to have category specific permissions.
