Using variables more than once on same page

Can anyone please tell me how to use a variable multiple times on the same page. I'm trying to use the 'fname' variable more than once on the member_details.aspx page (once for Membership Details for 'fname & lname' and again for the Modify Contact Details fields) but I'm having no luck. I'm new to .net and am used to asp where you would simply declare the variable and then use it as often as you like.

Any help appreciated.

You can store values either in session or cookies. For example using session,

session('FName') = txtFName.Value

session('LName') = txtLName.Value. Now you can use the session value FName with session('FName') like using variable

Thanks Francis - but given that the variable is already available on the page (used in the member details update fields) why should you have to set a separate variable? Seems messy! Why can't I use the existing fname variable twice? There must be a way - I'm just not that good yet!

Thanks for any more thoughts.

Norman,

Since HTTP is a stateless protocol and a web server doesn't recognize users between different requests that is post backs , we can't store them

in variables.

Maybe I'm not being clear enough. When I log in to the site and go to the member details page all of my details are correctly listed in the form fields on the right side of the page. On the left side it says Membership Details for normangrey which is my username. I would really like that to say Membership Details for Norman Grey, in other words fname & lname. Those details are already available on that page because they are in the form fields - is there no way to utilise some of those variables twice?

Is membership details are stored in database and retrieved back while login and shown in the page ?

Obviously! In a table DataSet if I'm not mistaken. But, you only get to use that dataset once.

So, can anybody show me the relevant query (in DataSet.xsd I think) and then how to set the results as sitewide session variables?
