Final Version of Classified StarterKit6/7/2006 12:15:22 PM

0/0

Hello,

This Classified Staterkit is here since last 50 days. In my responses to the final version i was suggested that starterkit is extended till end of MAY  for better suggestions and feedbacks.

June has already started and i see no sign of Final StarterKit arriving,

May i request the moderator to look in this matter and give us the final version.

Even after recieving the final version the implementation at ouir end will take few more weeks for adding the additional features by us and asking the community for support with more advanced features.

Thanks

paggy4u

Hi,

moderators don't have anything to say in this. It's the people of Microsoft who build the starter kits and put them online.

BTW, where did you get the message that it would appear at the end of May?

Grz, Kris.

This was in reply from the asp.net team, who handles starterkits.
They informed me about many kits coming in short time.

For example Mr. Shaku Niyogi is busy writing starterkit for Blogs.
More info here ..... www.shankun.com

I had also posted the extended date in my previous thread. Here it is.

I am waiting for some one to answer.

Thanks

I'm also awaiting that starter kit to show up but got tired of waiting and installed dasBlog as my blog engine: http://blog.krisvandermast.com/.

Hello Kris,

I was really happy to see your blogs. I will make it a point to visit often.

May i ask for a little help from you....?

Could you kindly focus more on DasBlog. Is it free or paid one. I would like to install it.

Pl. give me a link to download it.  Is it based on asp.net 2.0 or 1.1.

Thanks in advance

Paggy4u

P.S.:-by the way your name will become more popular in India soon. A Film with Indian Superstar is getting released with a very costly budget in India. The Name of The film is KRIS. This is just for your knowledge.

Hi,

I have it running in ASP.NET 2.0 but that requires some, documented, changes to the web.config file. you can find more information here: http://www.dasblog.net/. Its open source and free.

Thanks for letting me know about the movie although I probably won't be able to see it. Bollywood movies never seem to get in the theaters in Belgium and it's quite hard to find specialized video centers which offer Bollywood movies.

Hopping for mid July. The excellent feedback from this forum is being used right now to work on the next version.

Is this your prediction or based on any confirmed news you have from asp.net team

I was corresponding with Mr. Jeff King from Microsoft, who owns This Classified Starterkit.

Thanks

I'll add it to the list of suggestions. Have you taken a look at the current PayPal-enabled Commerce Kit?  http://pdn.paypal.com/commercestarterkit/default.htm The work there could be leveraged in the Classifieds Kit. Each product.aspx page in the Commerce Kit has an "add to cart" link. That link might be on each ShowAd.aspx page e.g. in the Classified Kit. Then you would have to figure what parts of the existing commerce kit would be needed (orders management, shipping, etc.)

Dear Marcgel.

Could you kindly focus more on approx date of final release, with few highlighting features  that are considered in the final release of Classified Starterkit.

Since the kit is delayed quite a bit, may we expect few great features in this kit.

Thanks

Hi Paggy4u,

Sorry to keep you and the others on this forum waiting for the next version of the Classifieds SK.  I know I advertised an earlier date for the final release of this kit and we have not delivered upon that date.  Just to give some insight into how the creation of these Starter Kits work, members of the product team volunteer to create these sample applications in addition to their primary duties of delivering the product (ASP.NET or Visual Studio) itself.  Thus kit schedules are at the whim of our product commitments as was the case with this one.  That said, I best refrain from making a commitment to a release date because our schedule is rolling. =)

The final release of the Classifieds SK won't get any additional features, however it will benefit from a variety of bug fixes (around 16 or so).  We review every kit with developers on the ASP.NET team.  Marc has been busy addressing the issues caught by these reiviews as well as bugs found by contributors on this forum.  We've corrected some fairly meaty issues.  Trading additional features for quality is the way to go and I hope you all will agree with me.

I think the spirit of the kits not emphasized enough: the ability for everyone to contribute to the effort.  The license, open source code, and community forums is designed to allow anyone to add features and contribute their work to everyone else.  I think all this interest in the classifieds is great and I encourage everyone to add the features that you want that we at Microsoft may not have time to do.

I hope this helps and thanks for the support!

-Jeff

Hi,

Jeff.aspx:
Trading additional features for quality is the way to go and I hope you all will agree with me.

I for one agree to that statement. I like to point out to the starter kits when a beginning ASP.NET developers asks certain questions. For example I know theming is in the PWS kit so I point out to that kit if someone asks how to use theming.

So I hope that the kits also be reviewed to best practices by the Patterns & Practices team as these kits are also used to learn how to program. And nothing is as worse, well ok there are worse things, as studying from an example that doesn't apply best practices causing a novice to learn bad behaviors from the beginning.

Grz, Kris.

Dear Jeff / Marcgel.

I really appreciate your efforts for helping the community by working more for us, after your scheduled working hours.

In such cases we cannot demand or force you for more favour. All we can say is give us a good Final Classified starterkit as soon as possible with detailed white papers and a database for sql 2000/2005
since many hosting providers provide only sql2000 so far.

Can we expect a date FINAL AND CONFIRMED DATE  from you know, since mid july has already passed and August is round the corner.

Thanks
