css not displaying on nested menu control2/2/2007 5:47:48 PM

0

I have a master page that contains a menu control at the top of the page for main navigation. When you click on one of those items, a nested master page is called with another menu control on the left side for a secondary level of navigation. Both controls are implemented using the css adapter menu control and both are using the same stylesheet that is located within my App_Theme/Theme name folder. The main menu control displays and works correctly. However the nested menu control does not display any of the css styles. The only way you can tell it is even on the page is to view the source. What do I need to do to get the css styles to display at this nested level?

 Thanks - KB

Hi Kelly, can you post the HTML of the problem page (doing a "view source" from the browser)? Once I see that I'll be able to ask more intelligent questions to help you diagnose this.  If I were to make a guess now I'd say that somehow you are ending up (on the problematic page) lacking the necessary <link> tags that bring in the essential CSS.

<link runat="server" rel="stylesheet" href="~/CSS/Import.css" type="text/css" id="AdaptersInvariantImportCSS" />
<!--[if lt IE 7]>
    <link runat="server" rel="stylesheet" href="~/CSS/BrowserSpecific/IEMenu6.css" type="text/css">
<![endif]-->

See http://www.asp.net/cssadapters/whitepaper.aspx#SamplesUsingInYourWebSite.  This is just a guess, though. Nested master pages can get a bit tricky, I've found.  I'd bet that you have a minor problem and that you'll be able to fix it easily... once we zoom in on it.

I was able to figure out what the problem was - well sort of. It didn't have anything to do with the nested master pages - it was a problem with the way my stylesheets and skins were set up. I started over and mimicked the exact way the stylesheets and skins were set up in the css adapter tutorial and things seem to be working correctly now. - Thanks!
