Update user profile problem

I'm trying to manage Users and their profiles on a site I am building. I have adjusted web.config to include various new properties. I retrieve a list of users into a dropdownlist control and use that to populate some textboxes. That works fine, I select different users in the DDL and the text box updates on postback. I added a button to update the profile information, but that fails to update the profile, the button click fires a postback, but the profile does not actually get changed. Code snippets below:
