Hi,

 

Could anyone tell me if i can use sharepoint and webparts to create an application similar to igoogle?

 

I dont haveve much  idea about sharepoint..

from the articles i have come across about sharepoint i feel it can be done..

plz suggest me some good links on hw it can be done..

Hi,

As others said before me, you should read about Web Parts development and should use Web Parts in SharePoint to make your web application similar to IGoogle. On the other hand, if you read only about Web Parts you will not know enough on how to proceed with your web application.

I assume you want to create a web application (web site) that will be available to end users through the internet. If that is correct then it would be an internet application and not an intranet application. In most cases, when you want to make an internet application in SharePoint, you will create a Publishing portal and end users will not really know that your web application/site is running on SharePoint (they will just use all the great features of SharePoint and portal framework).

I would suggest you read this steps by step article on how to create internet web sites running on SharePoint: http://blogs.msdn.com/ecm/archive/2006/10/30/building-tylerbutler-com-part-1-planning-and-basic-branding.aspx. Then make your own application by following those steps and make additional persionalisation (additional Web Parts) to finally have an IGoogle like web site.
