master page in sub folder does not show div background images.

I have a login control with that directs you to a Members page in a Members folder on my root. I added a new masterpage2 in my members sub folder, but when try and place a div background image nothing shows up. I also tried just using my masterpage on my root, but that didn't work either. I read on another post that it's only a design time thing and when you post it it works, but that did not work for me. I even tried posting the pictures in a folder in my subfolder, but no luck even on my web server. Any ideas would be apreciated.

Is the path to the image correct? Is it not a dotted path, which may be blocked in IIS? Can you request the image using the exact same path/name?

yeah the path has to be correct because I applied the background image in design view by right clicking on the div, selecting style, then selecting a background image. It's exactly the way i setup my masterpage on my root which works fine. thanks.
