Hello Conwy,
That's a good question. To be honest I haven't looked at DNN 4.0 yet. I
have just been watching the forums for any problems that have been
occurring with using 4.0.
So at present I can not answer if there are any differences in terms of
installation. Before considering installing 4.0 in a production
environment read the post by iwonder here as it raises a few
interesting points:
http://forums.asp.net/1124390/ShowPost.aspx
My plan for looking at 4.0 / ASP.NET 2.0 is to begin testing it on a
localhost setup over the next couple of months or so. Once I have more
of an understanding I will then create the tutorials.
So, perhaps in 2-3 months I will look at creating one of those
tutorials, based on allowing time for bugs etc. to materialise and
getting to know the latest ASP.NET 2.0
If you are desparate for installing 4.0 I would have thought the
process would be very similar to the tutorial I have created for 3.2 -
but of course I can not offer any guarantees as I have not done it yet
myself.
As well as these tutorials I also wanted to create a tutorial which
walked you through setting up your computer ready for installing
DotNetNuke on a localhost install - right from the beginning of a fresh
installation of windows XP pro. Now with the release of ASP.NET 2.0,
SQL server express, DNN 3.2 / 4.0 it slightly complicates what format
to create a tutorial for. - Previously I would have demonstrated how to
set up ASP.NET 1.1 and SQL server 2000 and then how to install 3.1 to a
localhost. - But now with 2 versions it makes it hard to make a
decision as to what I should present as a tutorial and what would be
most beneficial for everyone, especially the beginners to DNN. - Do you
have any thoughts on this?
Over the next few months I am planning on beginning a series of
tutorials on how to create a DNN website right from the very beginning,
looking at planning, basic skinning, modules, maintenance, etc. through
to the end promotion of a site.
There are also plans for looking at a CSS series and teaching the
basics of module development series, so it does start to get quite hard
striking a balance of what people would be interested in for tutorials.
- If anyone has any particular requests or preferences then please do
not hesitate to let me know, afterall I'm creating these tutorials for
the DNN community.
Well, that was a long answer, but hopefully it will provide a few
details as where I am progressing at the moment. - Let me know what you
think.
- In the next couple of days Issue 4 of the magazine will be released
with these installation tutorials, plus a few extras that hopefully you
will find useful.
Cheers,
