Private Assembly of ted Ted Thomasson's DocPath Module is available for download.

DocPaths Module does the following:

1) Allows user to define path location(s) (e.g. f:\HRDocs, g:\QualityDocs) for the documents for a particular page. The documents can be separated into separate folders for each group within the organization (e.g. Human Resources, Quality, Mfg, Accounting).

2) Using a free Microsoft supplied ActiveX DLL and the directory and file classes within .NET, the application reads the Document Summary Properties of each file and creates a grid which displays the document title, author, date created, and last modified date. The 'Title' of each row of the grid is a hyperlink to the actual document using a UNC format. For those not familiar with Document Summary Properties, if you click on 'File' in any office application, one of the options is 'Properties' where you have the ability to assign a bunch of document properties.

The routine is recursive so that if there are sub-folders within each directory it will identify them and load the corresponding files into the grid.

This is really an Intranet only type of application where the intranet server is also connected to the corporate network. If you would be interested in this module please send me an e-mail. I haven't taken the time yet to script all of the stored procedures and table but I'd be happy to do that and send you the code. I don't really have time right now to put this into a private assembly.

I'd like to thank Chris for creating the PA and hosting the download for me. He's a great example of the DNN community. It says in his announcement that the database had not been scripted, that is no longer accurate. Everything required to implement the module is included in the PA. Please remember to download the Dsofile.Exe file!!!

This module works on all Microsoft Office files (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and will also work on PDF files. If you have any questions or suggestions for this module, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].

When a stable version of DNN 2.0 is released, I plan on updating the module.

I'm sorry for the misleading statement in Module description.
I just cut & pasted your initial post about the module.
But you did a lot of work on it since then, so that was no more accurate.

You are right - the module is complete, with automated PA installation including all database scripts.

I've been looking at the module and think it's got great potential. I'm looking at adding sub-folder support so that you can drill down through folders to find content. Is anything like this on the development schedule?

The module will automatically go through any sub-folders that it finds and include them in the grid. I looked at separating the sub-folders into separate grids and decided it was too confusing to the user.

As far as future enhancements I'm looking at providing the ability for the user to indicate what fields from the 'document properties' they want to include in the grid. That's the biggest request that I'm getting. Also once a stable version of DNN 2.0 is released, I plan on converting the module to the new version.

Got a problem now. It was working just fine, but now when I click on a document title, nothing happens. No errors, no documents, no nothing. Just sits there giving me the finger and laughing at me. Needless to say, this is a bit disconcerting.

Thought that maybe it was popping up in another browser window buried under some other windows, so I closed all browser instances but the one and tried again. Same finger, same laugh. Restarted everything. Same finger, same laugh.

I've got the dsofile stuff loaded properly, I see all the documents, I see the summary data, I see the title, I see at the bottom of the browser in the status bar that it's a hyperlink and it's pointed to the right location. Still nothing. I'd settle for a hamster dance right now...

Tried to right-click and "Save target as...", but I'm running CSS Skins and right-clicking brings up my admin menu. Running out of things to try. Got a hammer that's starting to look pretty good right now, though...
